I began to pursue a career in music therapy and started to dive deeper into my relationship around my racial identity. I also began to tailor my editorial writing around identity, representation, diversity and inclusion, slowly finding my voice in that space. And that’s when The RepresentASIAN Project was born.
Around that time, I also started to work with Netflix and was part of the core team that launched @netflixgolden, a channel catered to the Asian diaspora.
Currently, my freelance writing focus is on editorial and branded content and creative copywriting for business and brands. I like to write from a personal experience point-of-view, particularly when it comes to diversity and representation, along with mental health.
I also am a host, moderator and speaker, having appeared on Red Table Talk, CBC Metro Morning, etalk, Citytv News, Global News and the Toronto International Film Festival.
Finally, as a therapist, my main focus is working with Asian women and helping them work through racial and intergenerational trauma. I work from a client-centred, holistic, resource-oriented approach, incorporating elements from various psychotherapeutic techniques.
Hi! If you’re here, you probably know that I wear many hats: writer, editor, content creator, speaker, advocate, therapist, founder, etc.
Yes, I know. My overachieving tendencies from childhood are still engrained in me. But I promise it makes sense! My mission in all of this is to support, advocate for and empower the Asian North American community, particularly women and I weave this purpose into all of the work that I do.
So, how did I get here?
My love for storytelling came from a young age, leading me to pursue a career in fashion journalism. I worked as editor of StyleList.ca (RIP), Style Editor at HuffPost Canada (also RIP) and digital editor at FASHION and wrote for many lifestyle publications such as Chatelaine, FLARE and Yahoo! Style.
During that time, I did many ~glamorous~ things like cover red carpets (Toronto International Film Festival, iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, Canadian Arts And Fashion Awards, and the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show), host live hits and interviews, and produce, script and edit video content. However after many years in the lifestyle journalism realm, I soon learned that my real passion lies in amplifying voices that are often silenced or unheard.
